The Path to Positive Energy

Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see. Mark Twain

Now you may be wondering: so what? Something that is often overlooked in this society is the value of kindness. To often people are persuaded that ideas such as Social Darwinism are correct. If you think that I am full of it and that only the strong survive watch this video. If you still have any doubt consider this song by Simon and Garfunkel; while it is a little dark, it is a great example of how things are not worth pursuing. Now that you are back, are you still sure that strength and wealth are the best things to pursue? I for one feel that it is a waste of time.

Now that you are aware of many misconceptions you are probably wondering: what should we strive for instead of material gain? As Robert M. Pirsig (the author of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Repair) said: “To live only for some future goal is shallow. It's the sides of the mountain that sustain life, not the top.” This does not mean that you should not have goals like getting rich, or something else, rather it means that you should enjoy the path to reach your goal since it is the real reward.

Perhaps you remember wanting ice cream, or wanting to kiss your significant other. While that is not a long term goal, which was better, the moment when you achieved your goal, or the time leading up to the moment? If your experience is anything like mine you will remember the kiss or ice cream, but you will treasure the moments leading up to the goal. You will treasure the playful banter with your brother debating which ice cream is best. You will treasure holding your love in your arms and dancing. The end goal is amazing, but the journey is the best part. In no way does this mean the end goal is irrelevant or not worth striving for, after all would you ever walk the road if you did not want to get to the end?

So all this advice is great, but you may be wondering: how can I use this? Perhaps you are dismissive thinking something like: this sounds great, but there is no way I could ever do this. Either way it is totally possible to boost your positive energy. You just have to take your desire to improve your life and act on it. First come up with some kind of goal, preferably one that will benefit someone else. Start small, find something easy like making a YouTube video teaching others how to do something you are passionate about. It will be a journey with a reward at the end. The best part is that it can be the stepping stone to something big like your own following on YouTube. Just keep coming up with ideas that further some larger goal. In no time at all you will be full of positive energy.

Just keep working on your goals and you will almost surely have a fulfilling life. I would like to leave you with one last thought before I leave you to make your choice about your life. Remember that whatever choice you make will change your life, for the better or worse I can not say. But no matter what happens enjoy the road.

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Robert Frost
